The old man understood the young woman’s suffering. He knew he must help her. He knew he could never remove her pain, but he could teach. And he also knew the result would depend only on her character.
“Tonight, take your big feather pillows and put single feather on the doorsteps of each house in the village before the sunrise.” He said.
The young woman hurried home to prepare for it, even though the feather pillows were very dear to her. All night long, she made her efforts alone in the cold. Finally it got light and she placed the last feather on the step of the last house. Just as the sun rose, she returned to the old man.
“Now,” said the man, “go back and refill your pillows with the feathers you have put on the steps. Then every thing will be as it was before.”
“You know that’s impossible! The wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorstep!” The young woman was surprised.
“That’s true,” said the old man. “Each of your words is like a feather in the wind. Once your words are spoken, no matter how much effort you make and how sincere you are, you can never return them to your mouth. Choose your words well and protect people you love from being hurt.”

People love Shakespeare’s vocabulary and creativity. He used more than 15,000 words in this writing! But Bible’s Old Testament only contains 5,642 words. Shakespeare also invented many new terms and phrase.
If someone’s behavior suggested they were not honest and should not be trusted. Shakespeare called them suspicious. If someone was silly and perhaps looked like a fool, Shakespeare found their actions laughable. And for those who offered their opinions on something’s quality, Shakespeare called them critics. Today , for instance, food critics and film critics give their opinions on food and films.
The familiar phrase “break the ice” comes from Shakespeare’s play The Taming of the Shrew. The “ice is broken” when people in a group, who have never met before, begin to talk to each other by doing some activities. More common words were first used by Shakespeare including “road”, “gossip”, “lonely”, “bump” and “hurry”.
Four hundred years after his death, Shakespeare surely lives on, in everyday speech, as he most famous writer of all time.

Nowadays. Many of us spend about 10 hours a day in front of a computer or other electronic devices and less than 30 minutes a day outdoors. The result is that our brain easily feels tired. We need to give the brain a rest, but how?
David Strayer is a professor of psychology at the University of Utah. He claims that camping may be just what a tech-tired brain needs. His argument finds strong support from Carl and Kate, two experienced campers. Carl, who works for a mobile phone company, says that being outdoors makes him feel relaxed. It also prepares him for the work he must do. “Camping gives us a chance to be in touch with nature and is very relaxing. When you return to work on Monday, you’re in a better state of mind. I really like the way I feel on Monday.” Kate is a senior editor. She says camping brings her some peace she couldn’t have otherwise. She even finds herself more creative.
David Strayer explains that camping allows close contact with nature, and being in nature calms the brain and helps it to focus. When people go camping, they need to learn about animals and natural environments; they have to deal with the weather, learn to stay dry in the rain and warm in the snow and have to learn how to keep the feet in good condition when hiking and walking.
Some might say that taking a long walk in the woods or by the ocean or in a city park is wonderful, too. But camping requires that one spends more time in nature and it can test him in different ways. And it brings more health benefit as well.
12. What is the result of using electronic devices too much?
A. Our brain will feel exhausted.
B. We will waste time.
C. Our study will be influenced.
D Our brain will be refreshed.

D. To show their interest in camping.
14. Which of the following is the benefit of camping?
A. It helps protect the environment.
B. It helps us learn more about nature.
C. It teaches us to keep warm in the rain.
D. It teaches us to avoid difficult situations.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards camping?
A. Positive B. Negative C. Uninterested D. Doubtful
